![]() ![]() The M1909 was also able to use the bayonet of the Mauser 1891 it replaced. Among other modifications, the Lange Visier sight was replaced by a tangent leaf sight. I've seen many auctions like this where people claim a 1909 Mountain carbine when only a few parts are actually from that variant. The Mauser 1909 was a slightly modified copy of the Gewehr 98. It is a pretty gun, but too many changes from original and not enough definition in the pics for me to tell how much comes from a true 1909 Mountain carbine. The floor plate indicates a possibly proper SN, but could also apply to other carbines or long guns and those floor plates would be interchangeable. The receiver Argentine crest is nice, but cannot confirm proper variant from only that. No pics of the bolt SN so cannot tell there. The bayonet lug is not drilled for the Riccheri adapter so not original there and the cleaning rod is the wrong length. Other markings on top of handguard before and after the sight ladder indicate also not proper stock including the length of the wood on top extending into the nosecap is wrong. the front handguard band and nosecap are not from 1909 Engineer's carbine and the serial number on the stock is not prefixed by an "A" and not in the correct spot so definitely not a proper DWM German made1909 stock. Thanks u/rk5n !, that one looks heavily altered. Posting pic of 2 of the Carbines that I own below a standard long rifle version that I attached a scope and get real consistent accuracy at ~900 yards and have yet to take it to trial at 1200. For some reason, I really feel the need to collect this info. Please message me privately with serial numbers or info also if you can. I, myself, am not wanting to discuss bayonets or Calvary variants or other info, but welcome all information and photos of what you have. There are many differences with the parts and barrel measurements, etc that prove this was not a cutdown version of the long gun or modified Calvary carbine. This variant was not made during the later FMAP or earlier 1891 runs. Only 6000 were made in 2 different production runs. I do own the books from Colin Webster and Robert Ball's 5th edition and have been researching focused on this particular model. At this posting time, I have only found proof of 8 still in existence and some of those have really been badly "bubba'd" with mismatched parts, re-chambered, stocks altered and other modifications, etc. Hi everyone, I am new to reddit, but trying to collect a list of any still existing Arg 1909 Engineers Carbines (sometimes called Mountain). ![]()
